Competitive Analysis

These are examples of the kinds of games that I would be competing with.

Professor Layton. This series of games is the most successful on the DS and has become very
popular with the kind of people that don't normally play video games. This is the exact kind of audience
I would aim my game at. The fourth installment of the series "Professor Layton and the Spectre's Call"
is due for release in November 2011 and is sure to be a big seller over the Christmas period.

The Phoenix Wright series. The detective type gameplay in these games is similar to how I would like the
investigation in my game to work, gathering clues in order to solve a mystery. The upcoming title featuring
Phoenix Wright and Professor Layton together is a hotly anticipated release and would definitely be
in competition with my game idea as it has the mix of investigation and puzzle solving.

Luigi's Mansion 2. Sequel to the popular Gamecube game which became something of a cult classic.
The game features a similar cartoon like visual style and see's Luigi searching a haunted house to look
for Mario. This will be released for the 3DS in 2012 but details of how the game will use the 3DS
technology have yet to be disclosed.

Doctor Lautrec and the Forgotten Knights. This game will be released in November 2011 and appears to
be fairly similar to the Professor Layton series in terms of visual style and gameplay. You have to uncover
clues and solve puzzles. Even the protagonist has a similar outfit to Professor Layton.

There are a lot of games of a similar genre for the DS/3DS because I think that the console lends itself
well to these types of game. However I do believe that Mystery House would have enough unique
selling points to be able to set it apart from other games of a similar type. The number of games
and the success of these types of games proves that there is definitely a market for my game.
