[Research Report] Wonderbook

To begin the research for my report I am looking at the ways in which narrative is delivered to children. Shown at this years E3 convention Sony's Wonderbook is a new AR accessory for the Playstation 3 console. Using a specially made book players can use the PS3 camera to make images appear on the pages. The device is designed to get children to interact with books in a new way and try to create a more immersive experience than just reading a book.

 

The image above shows a Harry Potter application for the Wonderbook which allows the player to use the book like a book of spells and by gesturing create the feeling of casting magic. The above video shows the device being used in an official trailer.
