'The Paper Fox' is an interactive storybook for iOS which has just recently been released. It was funded by crowd funding, which is an increasingly popular and successful way for smaller projects to be funded. The way that crowd funding works is that the company making the game/film/album whatever the project is makes a pitch (usually in the form of a video) and puts this on tailor made websites and invites the public to invest a small amount of money to fund the project. This normally is rewarded by some kind of incentive which grows in value with the amount of money you pledge to invest. This unique way of getting investments is enabling a lot more small and interesting projects to be made which might not necessarily be able to gain funding from more traditional methods.
'The Paper Fox' itself is an interactive narrative like my project and I really wish I had found out about it earlier in my project. The art style is really delightful and is 3D models based on paper craft. All the characters are really well designed and everything feels like it really has been made out of paper. Similarly to mine the narrative is aimed at children and has tones of a moral underlying the narrative. The game's protagonist is a Fox who begins the story as somewhat of a know it all but as the story progresses the characters that he meets along his journey allow him to change his attitude.
'The Paper Fox' is what similar to what I would envision my narrative becoming if I had a lot more time to develop it and work on it further. I feel like my project has the potential to become something on the same level as this and I believe my narrative would also work well on iOS. Given the opportunity I would love to develop my project further after I have finished university and I really believe there is a place for a game like mine in the existing market. 'The Paper Fox' shows that this type of narrative aimed at children has a place on a digital device.
