Showreel

Now that I have put together my narrative I am going to focus on the other aspects of the submission such as my showreel. I want to put a lot of thought into my showreel so that I can create something which really reflects me as an artist.
I am thinking of creating two, one which shows off all the art and animations I have done for BA7/8 and one for other work which wouldn't fit in with my project work.

The first task I had was finding music which I would be able to use. As I am going to be showing the showreel to people I had to make sure that the music I used was royalty free so that I wouldn't get charged for using someone's music without paying to use it. I found a website only which had a lot of music composed for the purpose of being used royalty free.

I found a song which I thought matched the feeling I wanted my showreel to put across. I wanted to give off a kind of magical/ fairytale theme. My artwork and the stories I build are very based on imaginative worlds so I thought this type of music would fit.

I decided I would make two showreels in the end. One is to show the work that I have done for this project and the other will contain some of my other work from other university projects and some personal work. I felt that if I put all kinds of work in one showreel it wouldn't really all fit together.

The first showreel shows all my project work, a variety of concept work and final digital painting and animation. I also wanted to make sure I got across the originality and meaning behind my work too so I chose to have some important moments from my narrative in there to give people an idea of what my work is about. I used two pieces of my artwork for my narrative to create an opening animation to look like the viewer is crawling through a tunnel and opening a door. This was to fit in with my fairytale theme and I thought it would be similar to stories like Alice in Wonderland. Again I think this helps to put across what kind of an artist I am and what kind of influences and creative styles I have.

The second showreel shows a selection of concept work and illustration, both traditional and digital. I wanted to show other work because I don't want to give the impression that all my work is in the same style as my BA8 project work. I want to show my strengths in other areas and as I said earlier I didn't want to put all these different types of work in one video as I felt it would be too messy and not cohesive enough.
