Mystery House - Premise.
You play as a female detective who has gone to an old abandoned house in order to investigate some strange occurrences. Many years ago the house saw a series of terrible murders and the case was never solved. Since then the house has remained empty as every family who moved there experienced paranormal activity.
Upon entering the house the door closes and locks behind you and you are trapped in the house until the mystery is solved.
Gameplay
The game moves between day and night during play. Certain actions can only be performed in daylight and vice versa. During the day the player can search the house for items and clues to solve puzzles. At night ghosts inhabit the house and can only be seen then. There are some ghosts who want to help the player uncover the mystery behind their death so that they can rest in peace and go on to the next world and there are some ghosts who want to remain in the human world to cause mischief. These ghosts try to scare the player.
The player has a damage meter (a scare o’meter) which increases when attacked or scared by evil ghosts. Once the meter reaches its limit the player has to hide in a cupboard until daytime again. This can hinder the player in completing puzzles etc so it would be best to avoid filling the damage meter. Evil ghosts can be kept at bay using certain items for example torches.
Ghosts that are willing to help the player will give the player puzzles to solve in order to figure out how they died and what happened to them. Once all the clues are collected the ghost relives their last moments through memory. At this point the player sees what happened through their point of view. The action cannot be changed by the player as it is a memory but you can learn things to solve the mystery of what happened in the house all those years ago. Once all the memories have been collected you can then solve the mystery and save all the spirits within the house, when this happens the door will open and the protagonist can leave the house and return home.
