Narrative plan

This is a more detailed plan of my narrative and exactly what will happen in it. I plan to have two main animated sequences and have the rest be more simple pages with some basic animation to give them more depth.
I also plan to have two interactive elements when the boy battles with the monsters. These will be fairly simplistic and will result in either a fail or success outcome. If the fight ends in failure the player may retry and success means the story continues.

Small change in that I decided to change the name of my main character from Harvey to Hugo just because I think it fits better with the name Lily and is more simplistic. I also found myself often thinking that I had called him Hugo so decided to just change it in the end.

Narrative plan

Animated sequence 1:

To set the scene this sequence will show Hugo and his family mourning Lily. Hugo will then see his parents laughing and getting back to normal after her death and this makes him angry and upset. He thinks that people are forgetting Lily because they are carrying on with their lives.

Pages:

Hugo falls asleep in his room, and when he awakes ventures downstairs to find that all memory of his sister has disappeared. Her image is gone from all the photographs and none of his family know who he is talking about when he questions them.

Confused, Hugo returns to his room where he sees a strange light like a firefly. It grows and turns into a vision of Lily. She delivers a message to him, that she has been kidnapped by the king of the realm between this world and the next and Hugo is the only one who can rescue her. She tells him he must travel into the realm and find her.

The vision of Lily turns back into a firefly which is then joined by several others which spell out the word FOLLOW. Hugo follows the lights out of the house and through his garden to a strange door in a tree.

Once through the door the fireflies disappear and Hugo is left to find his way to Lily. He walks around looking for clues and suddenly he comes across various items belonging to Lily, these help to guide him through the brightly coloured forest. When finding each item he remembers a happy memory they shared together. The more items he finds the more Lily can appear to him.

He sees shadows in the distance and hides. Lily explains to him that they are the followers of the king and are very dangerous.

Interactive stage 1

Player helps Hugo defeat 3 monsters by choosing different actions. (simple point and click, either success and move on to the next monster or fail and retry)

Finale:

Once the monsters are defeated Hugo carries on his journey and enters the lair of the evil king. Hugo sneaks through to the kings lair to confront the King

Interactive stage 2

Hugo does battle with the king in the same way as earlier. Choice of options either success or fail.

On success of the end fight Hugo wins the key to release his sister and the King monster admits defeat saying he underestimated the bond between them. Hugo then releases his sister from her imprisonment

Animated Sequence 2:

Lily hugs Hugo and thanks him for saving her. But now she has to carry on her journey to the next world. He asks if she really has to leave, that he misses her and wishes they could stay together.
She tells him that as long as he remembers her with a smile she will always be with him and they will always remain together.
She tells him to always remember the happy times they spent together just as he has been doing since he arrived.

Lily hugs Hugo and walks off towards a door made of light they wave to each other and smile and she disappears through it.

Epilogue:

Hugo wakes up at home in his bed and immediately runs downstairs. He checks the family photos on the mantelpiece and Lily is back in them. He rushes into the kitchen to find his mum and dad and they all talk together about memories they share about Lily and laugh.

Writing this plan and getting everything fixed will help me to be able to draw up the storyboard so using this plan I will be able to decide what is depicted on each page.
