Caged Bird - Prodigybombay
This image falls into the iconic type composition. As you can see from the image with guidelines the figure almost fits perfectly into the diamond shape, her arms even come out to fit the two side points. The figure's head is occupying the diamond a the top of the image and this makes it our first focus when looking at the piece.
The iconic composition is perfect for this type of piece of just one character and this image is set out really nicely, the good use of composition makes the most of the character.
Mermaid - Jason Chan
This image uses the root 3 spiral composition. The tail of the mermaid clearly follows the spiral shape around with the middle of the fin resting in the golden section. Even the shell that the mermaid is sitting in continues the curved shape from the tail. And actually even the position of the rest of her body follows a curve. This composition helps to lead the eye around the piece focusing our attention on the important details like her face and tail.
(title unknown) - Imperial Boy
This piece uses the 'L' composition. I have found that a lot of pieces wishing to draw attention to the environment use the 'L' composition. Here we can see that the figure and the platform she is laying on are in the foreground and fit into the 'L' shape and the background environment fits into the square left by the 'L'. This is to draw our eye into the background environment and all the details hidden within it. At first glance this piece seems to be of a normal cityscape but when we look more closely we can see that there are animals and other things that don't belong. The image has a very dreamlike quality and our attention is directed to those details using the 'L' shape.
